KAKARAMBA.

(PROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.) Wednesday. Christmas day passed off quietly 7, yet pleasantly, in onr town. The weather was all that, con'd ho desired a nice breeze from the sea modifying to a great extern the somewhat unusual heat of the sun. Rain, however, is badly 7 wanted. Tanks and wells are, empty 7, ami if wc do not, get a good downpour soon, the crops will suffer considerably. Our local butchers made a very good display, both in the decoration of their shops and (he exhibition of their goods.- At. Mr Brodie’s there was a splendid carcase of a prize heifer from the farm of Mr J. Hair, of Waverlev. When dressed its weight was 11881hs, and for excellence of quality 7 it could not be surpassed Mr Brodie, since his advent, has always made it a point to procure a good article for his customers, and no doubt the public will continue to patronise one who does his “ level best ” to please. On Saturday I visited the Kakaramea Station, which is rapidly approaching coinnletion. T'li© goods sh<»d only wants the floor and office to put it into working order. Messrs Jay and Haynes deserve great credit for the way in which they 7 have pushed on the work. Afterwards I strolled down . the formation expecting a walk of a mile or two to where plafelaying was going on, but was agreeably surprised to find that Mr Nathan, the contractor, had laid down the metal to within a few chains of the . station, and I was informed that would be able to reach the platform tomorrow if all went well.
