WAVERLEY.
(from our correspondent.) Thursday. Owing to (he heavy wind which was blowing on Saturday last, the Wairoa Light Horse decided on postponing thejr firing for district prizes until Saturday next. The officer commanding the district, Gapt. Neill, and Scrgt.-major Henry, were in attendance for the purpose of superintending the firing, but in consequence of the postponement of the competition, had a journey for nothing. The sale of the Momahaki Block did not cause much stir in the district. The buyers were mostly local men, who intend to at once set to work at improevments on their various purchases. After the sale, a meeting was held of the purchasers of sections, for the purpose of urging on the Government (he necessity of having the boundaries of the various sections defined by the insertion of fresh corner and direction pegs. A memorial to the Commissioner of Crown Lands was at once drawn up, and handed to him. The Commissioner signified his readiness to represent the matter to the proper quarter without delay, This is a highly important matter, as in many cases it is simply impossible to find title pegs or. boundaries. A large number of sections were not disposed of at the sale, the upset price being generally considered too high. Mirabile Dictu ! The County Council has called for tenders for metalling our main’ street. Verily we are rapidly approaching civilization. It is almost too good to believe. The approach of Christmas is causing the exodus of a good many of our residents, on pleasure bent. I notice a few new buildings going up in the and it is to be hoped that with the New Year a now era of things will commence, and that our town will try and keep pace with the others on the coast, ,
