ALLEGED FORGERY.
For some time p;ist the air has been thick with mmoiirs of i.huk and mysterious deeds perpetrated in Pa tea. It was said that these would be brought to light by-and-by, and that the disclosures would be interesting. Accordingly, when it became known that Mr W. Dale had been summoned to appear before the Court, there was some curiosity, not unmixed with excitement, as to what would happen. There was a numerous attendance at Court this morning, C. A. Wray, Esq.,. R.M., presiding. Mr Aitchisoli, Chairman of the Fatea Land, Building, and Investment Society, laid the information, which was sworn Before Mr Teu'nent, J.P. It alleged that “ William Dale, of Palea, auctioneer, did on or about the thirty-first day of July, 1882, unlawfully, with intent to defraud, alter a certain banker’s passbook, against the Peace of our Lady the Queen, her Crown and Dignity.” The defendant appeared and asked for an adjournment, as the summons was only served 0.1 him yesterday, and ho had not had time to engage counsel. Mr Barton, for the plaintiff, raised no objection to the adjournment, provided Mr Dale wobbl bind himself in a sufficient sum to appear when called upon. The ease was accordingly adjourned for seven day£, with the understanding that it was still further to be adjourned, defendant to enter into his own recognisances of£2so'aml two sureties of £IOO each, Messrs F. G. Mace ■ and E. Currie immediately offered themselves as sureties.
