KAKARAMEA.

(from our correspondent.) Tuesday. The children who attend the State school assembled early on Friday.afternoon for the purpose of celebrating their annual fete. Sports of various kind were carried on with great spirit both by the juveniles and several ladies who were present. After tea, some of the more advanced pupils competed for the prize for mental arithmetic given by the teacher, Mr Brown. When this was decided, all the children were called in to witness that interesting proceeding so dear to children—the distribution of prizes. The Chairman of the committee, Mr E. The Chairman then made a few pertinent remarks to the children respecting the need for regular attendance &c., &c„ ami called for three cheers for the teacher, which wore rendered in a hearty manner, Mr Brown then called for the same - for the chairman, and the ladies who had contributed so largely to the success of the entertainment, and then the parents and children dispersed, after spending a very pleasant afternoon. Thanks are due to all who subscribed to the fund for the prizes.
