In the : Home district, generally, a large consumption is in progress, while abroad, with the exception of some branches of the French trade, business is not less satisfactory. ;In the London market the private demand, which we reported ,in our last issue, has slightly slackened, though sales from day to day in small..quantities continue to take place;at full quotations. - 1 FROZEN MEATS.—-The Melbourne portion of the shipment per “ Chimborazo ” (s) has been sold with the exception 'of a few carcases. The average price is reported' at fully-Gd per -lb.. Of the consignment from Sydney, about 1,700 - carcams . have been , placed on the market,' yielding an average believed to be somewhat under s|d. per lb. As islready '.mentioned, - this portion of the shipment contains many very small,, thin slmep, not well suited to the purpo.-cs of the English trade. Several that we have seen hare not been carefully * butchered ; 1 nearly all have the shanks left on; and • many are ■stained and disfigured by : the ochre with which the cloths were profusely branded. : ■’ The New Zealand sheep ex "Mataura”have all been cleared off.! The best yielded, an average of. about H per lb. ' Lower rates were accepted, for some that: were less suitable for the requirements, of the market. We' quote Home-feet * meats to-day as follow: Good English and Scotch beef 7 --.(bodies) -; ... 4s to 5s 2d per Slbs. Good English and Scotch Mutton : (carcases) ... 4s Sd to 6s 4d, per 8 lbs.
