THE TRUNK RAILWAY.

The Tanpo correspondent of the Wanganui Herald telegraphed yesterday ns follows The Defence Minister held a meeting here with the natives this morning, when they gave their unanimous consent for the trunk railway to come through Tanpo, or on any lands under their control. They likewise pressed on the Government to make roads from Taupo to Tokano, and to Wairoa via Orakeikeraka. In the whole of the assembled natives, not one dissenting voice was heard against the railway or roads being constructed. Mr Bryce in reply thanked them for the warm welcome they had given him, and praised the Taupo Natives, who had always remained loyal to the Queen. About the railway and roads, he said that on his return to Wellington he would consult with his colleagues.
