PATEA—YESTERDAY. (Before C. A. Wray, Esq, R.M.) K. Hobnee v. G. Beamish. —This was a case adjourned from last week in order to enable defendant to make a statement accounting for certain monies received by him while Collector of Dog Tax on behalf of the Patea County Council. Mr Barton appeared for the plaintiff. The statement of the defendant was objected to by counsel on the ground that it was not a • complete statement, but merely an estimate. Mr Barton also reminded his Worship that defendant had had an adjournment at his own request, in order that he might furnish the statement required; and also that at the last sitting of the Court an order was made that Mr Beamish should be prepared with the document in question. His Worship said defendant’s statement was insufficient, and committed him to gaol for one calendar montlv A further charge of embezzling was remanded for eight days.
