THE VOLUNTEERS.

At a committee meeting of the Paten Rifles on Tuesday evening at the Albion Hotel, the resignation of Sergt, Chadwick as Secretary was received ami accepted, and Corp. IT. I. Kearney was appointed in his place on the motion of Sergt. Powell, seconded by Bandsman A. Haywood. It -was resolved that a statement of the assets and liabilities of the Company should be drawn up and laid before the Committee at the next Captain’s parade. The Captain and Treasurer were authorised to. sign .cheques in future. A letter was read from Volunteer Nutsford, protesting against the last competition for Messrs Christie and Haywood’s medals; also hitter from Oorpl. Kearney, upholding the shooting. There was some discussion over the matter, and the mooting adjourned till Saturday, to give members time to look over the N..Z. Rille Association Regulations, At Saturday’s meeting there were present—Capt. Taplin (in the chair), Sergt. 'Powell, Bandsman Haywood, and the Sec*., Corpl. Kearney. The following resolution was unanimously agreed to: “ That the Committee uphold the scores in shooting of those who competed for Messrs Christie and Haywood’s medals on Nov. 28, and recommend to the Patea Rifles that Vol, T. .Nutsford and bis son be allowed to shoot some morning convenient to them.” The scores of those who fired wore as follow :

A parade of Officers' and non-com-missioned Officers will take place to-mor-row evening at 7.30.
