One of Hie most extraordinary men in Auckland is the l\cv. Win. Comrio, who has lived in a house at the top of West Queen-street for 40 years. By lending money he has accumulated an enormous fortune, but the habit of saving has grown upon him till he could not find it in his heart to afford to himself the common necessaries of life. Ho lived in a ruinous house in a state of squalor and dirt, which was shameful to behold. A few days since Comrio was removed from his tumble-down dwelling, and taken out to his nephew’s farm at Pukokohe. Twenty grocers were recently indicted in England for selling eolfee adulterated with chicory. The authorities failed to show that the adulteration was injurious, and the prosecution fell through, A pork-pic maker at Melton Mowbray put a rillc on the lloor, placing the muzzle at his right eye. He then pressed the trigger with his ramrod. The bullet went right through his head and lodged in the ceiling. A i’ew days ago, a fine black retriever dog was swimming outside the baths at the Point, Pyrmont, Sydney, when a shark suddenly rose and cut the poor animal clean in halves, immediately disappearing with the hind portion. The dog, oi rather thppar - of it which was left, uttered a piteous cry, and then disappeared and was seen no more,
