PUBLIC MEETING AT OPUNAKI.

A numerously-attended public meeting was held at Opunaki on Monday, when the following resolutions were passed, and the Chairman (Mr A. Henderson) instructed to forward a copy to the newspapers :

(1) That the Chairman write to the Hon. Major Atkinson,Hon. Mr Rollcston, and Hon. Mr Bryce, pointing out that the present Survey Staff is altogether inadequate to moot the requirements of settlement, and urge that the number of sur-' veyors shotild bo increased without delay. (2) That this meeting would urge upon the Government the advisablenoss of appointing a Reserves Sub-Cornmissionor, in order that the settlement of the country might bo proceeded with more rapidly. (3) That Colonel Trimble, M.H.R. ; Mr Kelly, M.H.R ;. Mr Walt, M.H.R. ; and Messrs Levin, Johnston, and Hutchison, M.H.R.’s for Wellington City, be written to, requesting that the Government should bo urged to increase the Survey Staff at work upon the Native Reserves (ns frequently Vccornihended by the Royal Commission), and that greater vigour should bo exorcised in the settlement of the country. (4) That copies of the foregoing resolutions bo sent to the editors of the Taranaki, Hawora, Patea, Wanganui, and Wellington papers, with a request for their publication.
