JACKSON’S FORTNIGHTLY STOCK REPORT. The sale, at Hawera on the 10ih instant was well attended by settlers and others. The cattle entered were of good quality, and met a good market. At the yards today a good muster of stock came forward. The heavy rain prevented a large attendance, consequently some of. the pens were turned but unsold. Sheep were in faildemand, and realised capital . ‘prices.. Horses were in large supply, and dull of sale. Mr J. W. Jackson’s splendjd lot of Well-bred animals were. very much admired, but although low prices were asked I only succeeded in placing one or two. Mjstery Giirl by Peter Flat, dam Syhd, by Riddlesworth, was purchased by Mr r D, Fraser t for £2O, and the? two-yqar-old ’filly by The Painter, dam Mystery Girl went to the nod of Mr Gn en for £25. V ENGLISH MARKETS. i ’ We take the following from-the N.Z.L. and M.A. Gompany’s r circular of October slh : ; . , , „ . .... '"Wool ; Sales.— The series closed practically at the level of June.rates although on the one hand for fair to good greasy combing merino and fine cross-bred an appreciation thereon of £d per lb was . readily secured, on the other, short and faulty descriptions, motabij' those in a scoured condition which were in large supply, receded in value from £d @ Id per lb. Well grown lambs were, when free from fault, sold to greater advantage than in the previous sales. Notwithstanding the fact that some 40.000 bales have been held over for.future disposal, the outlook .for, the; fourth series is by no means unpromising ■ on the contrary, the general consensus of .opinion points to the belief that values:will then bejfully maintained, even althougli the Increasing desire on the part of Australian growers for early returns r - 'may Be. sufficiently marked to warrant ' their shipping by steamers some 20,000 bales of new clip Wool in time to be available for the November sales Frozen Meats. —The market ‘during the —"prast week has been very drill for all descriptions of Mutton and Beef, under the pressure of-heavy supplies. Considerable difficulty has been experienced in effecting, sales of frozen produce, and a sharp decline, in values has been Abe result. Of the Australian importation per “ Garonne” (s) sornri^2,soo- carcases jrdve been already, dealt with at an average of fully. 6d per ; lb., but under existing circumstances this figure is not being maintained; 11 Of the “ Mat aura’s.’’ New.Zealand consignments only, soine .1,500 have , been jiparketed. • The latter have yielded ah average price believed to beabout 5d per lb., sales having been in some cases made at considerably lower raites, although for a small proportion 6d per lb has, we learn, been reached. The uneat is coming to hand in satisfactory condition, but the over supplies above mentioned have riot admitted of its disposal at full rates. We quote Home-fed meats to-day.as follow ; , w

Good English ancl Scotch, Beef (bodies) ; 4s, @ 6s 2d per 8 lbs. Do. do;‘Mutton (carcases) 4s 8d @ 6s 2d per 8 lbs. ~
