At a late period of last night’s sitting in the Legislative Assembly, -Sir Bryan O’Loghlen’s motion for modification of Iho proposals re Loan Conversion was carried, and the threatened crisis has consequently been averted. INTER PRO VINCI AL. [per press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 16. An attempt at bouse robbery was frustrated last night. Shortly before nine p.m. tile occupiers of Longman and Go’s, wine and spirit stores, returned homo, and found that a man bad effected an entrance into the building. When discovered he was evidently endeavouring to conceal himself. A constable was called in and arrested the intruder, who was none other than Henry Garrett, a notorious character who has lecently been discharged from gaol after undergoing a twenty years’ sentence for housebreaking in Dunedin. He was taken to the police depot, and when searched a number of koj's were found on him so filed as to,fit any ordinary lock. There is little doubt that it was by one of these keys that Garrett unlocked the door and entered the establishment. OPUNAKE, Nov. 16. The English and New Plymouth mails were recovered yesterday not much damaged. The Paribaka and Pungarebu bags have not } T et been found.
