Ladies & gentlemen.—i have deemed it advisable to offer myself as a Candidate for the office of Mayor; so that an opportunity of effecting a change may be offered should you feel so disposed. I shall not attempt to write myself a character in order to fit me for the position aimed at, nor will I pledge, if elected, what I can or will do for you, preferring to work in the interests of all as circumstances may direct. The scheme for Borough improvements, now in course of being carried out, will require the most careful attention from the Mayor and Council. If elected my undivided attention will be given to this scheme in all its details, with a view to lessen the present heavy office and engineering expenditure, so that the best possible value may be obtained from the amount of the Loan authorised. Ever since the first Local Body was constituted in this Township, it has been my lot to occupy a position in one or more of the various public bodies, and the most of you have had an opportunity to judge whether you consider me worthy of confidence on this occasion, In order that both Candidates may be placed on an equal footing before the public, as regards holding a seat in the Council, and to prevent it being said that your interests would suffer if I continued in that position, should your verdict be given in favor of my opponent, 1 have this day tendered my resignation as a member of the Borough Council.
