ALARMING NEWS ABOUT THE COMET.

- . [PER S.S. CITY OF NEW YORK.] AUCKLAND, Nov. 13. Despatches from London on Oct. Bth say that the comet is all the talk of scientific circles. At present it is being regarded with considerable apprehension. Mr Richard A. Proctor, who denied that it was the comet of 1843 and 1880, now finds that he made a mistake in his calculations, and so has withdrawn his statements. More cautions astronomers than he have no doubt of the identity of the comet, and believe that it will return at the latest in October 1882, and will then fall into the sun with results that will dispense with the future publication of the newspapers of the world. It is said that this is . the opinion of the eminent scientists of the day, C. Piazzi Smith, the clever Astronomer Royal of Scotland, in particular, having made no secret of his belief that the end of the world is at hand.
