BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The adjourned meeting of the above Conncil was held on Tuesday evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Mafaony, Gibson, Dixon, Adams, Aitchison and Haywood. The following business was transacted ; ■ The Mayor proposed “ That Mr Barton be informed that the council are about to undertake the drainage of Bedford street, which will remove the nuisance complained of by Mr Wood. Seconded by Cr Adams and carried. The Mayor proposed and Cr Haywood seconded “ That all stationery, books, etc. required for the Engineer’s department be procured from the Town Clerk’s office.” Carried. Cr Gibson proposed “ That before the water cart is built, the Engineer be instructed to lay before the Council plans of channeling for Egmont street, from Bedford street to Victoria street.” Seconded by Cr Dixon, and carried. Cr Gibson moved “ That the Clerk be instructed to telegraph to Major Atkinson to bring the matter of the Patea loan before the Trust Commissioners at their first meeting. Cr Aitchison moved as an amendment “That a telegram be sent to Major Atkinson stating that the Council will be glad to learn the decision of the Commissioners re loan—being anxious to avoid further delay. Cr Gibson withdrew his motion in favor of the amendment, which was seconded by Cr Mahony, and carried. Cr Gibson proposed, and Cr Mahony seconded “ That it be an instruction to the
Clerk to keep a record of resolutions passed by the Council, showing whether the resolutions have been carried out or not, and that the Clerk at the ordinary meeting read over those that have not been carried out, and explain, if possible, the reason, so that the Council may take steps to have the resolutions carried out or rescinded.” Carried. The Council then went into committee* and on resuming adjourned.
