Five per cent 1889 loan has advanced to 104, and per cent 1879-1904 loan to 102^. The bank rate of discount is 5 per cent ; market rate, 3 (sic). In the State elections the Democracy have achieved triumphant successes, in New York, New England, and the Stale of Pennsylvania, and in the Southern States. The Democratic party has now an assured majority in congress. ALEXANDRIA, Nov/ 8. M. J Dnclere further announced, in connection ! with the present Socialist agitation in France, that the Government were determined to repress any internal disorder. LONDON, Nov. 9. Anthony Trollope is now recovering from his indisposition. A note lias been addressed to the Powers by the Egyptian Government in which it is stated that Anglo-French control in Egypt had been abolished because it was found that the dual and political character of the English and French Cent rollers-General had (he effect of creating trouble in (he Government of the country.
AUSTRALIAN. [reuter- —COPYRIGHT. ] (Received Nov. 10, noon.) The weekly report of the N.Z. Loan & Mercantile Agency Company shows that during the week the wool catalogued has been fair comprising 1700 bales, principally small lots, though there have been one or two larger clips. There has been a large attendance of buyers with brisk competition, and 1500 bales have been sold. Sound Merino and fine crossbreds have been very firm but the lower grades were slightly irregular. 114 bales of well-grown combing merino wool from the western district realised ray fetched 13d ; while 12£ d was hid for 82 bales of fine cross-breds from the Western District. For 14 bales of scoured super combing 22-|d was obtained. (Received Nov 10, 1-30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 10. Arrived last evening, Orient steamship Garonne, from Plymouth (Bept. 26) via Aden. INTERPROYINCIAL. (per press association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 10. • The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency report, under date London, 71li Nov. ;—The wool market is unchanged. Wheat market dull. Adelaide is worth 40s, and New Zealand 43s per 496 lbs. Tallow is dull of sale ; best mutton is worth £44 10s ; best beef, £43 per ton. The leather market is easier ; best sides are worth lid. The flax market is firm ; fine quality is worth £2B per ton.
