BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the Borough Council was held on Monday evening ; present, His Worship the Mayor, Crs Taplin, Haywood, McCarthy, Aitchison, and Dixon. The business was to consider and adopt the By-laws re Pound, &c. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr Taplin, it was resolved, “ That the j by-laws from clause , number 157 to clause 206, as. published in the Patea Mail on the 20th October, 1882, be adopted.” The statement of accounts for the half-year ending Sept. 30, was presented, duly certified by the Auditors as correct ; and on the motion of the Mayor, •seconded by Cr Haywood, was adopted, and the Council adjourned. The total receipts—including cash in hand on March 31, £6 10s—amounted to £1263 6s 3d. The principal items were —rates £l2l Is lOd ; rents, £lB5 15s 6d ; licenses, £412 ss; dog tax, £42 10s ; deposits on contracts, £lB4 ; bank overdraft, £307 12s lid. The expenditure amounted to £1259 3s 3d. Of this sum £702 9s lOd were spent on the streets and paths ; salaries, rent, and miscellaneous charges, £167 11s 8d; Engineer’s department, £231 9s lid, and the balance in various small charges.
