A military commission has been appointed to enquire into the cause of defects which were apparent in the Army Hospital and Transport services during the recent operations of British troops in Egypt. Intelligence has been received hero that the steamship Gulf of Finland, 1586 tons, outward bound, from Liverpool to Melbourne, went ashore at Gebbulzoogur, in the Red Sea, and is in need of assistance, which has been promptly sent from Aden. (Received Oct. 24, 4.30 p.m.) Oct. 23. Telegrams are to hand, from Manilla announcing that a terrific cyclone has been experienced in the Phillipine Islands. The greater portion of the town of Manilla has been completely destroyed. Consols remain at 10£, and New Zealand loans at last quotation. The market for colonial wheat is quiet but firm at 42s for Adelaide wheat ex store, and 43s to 46s for New Zealand ditto. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 345. Australian tallow is quiet; best mutton 465, best beef 43s 6d. PARIS, Oct. 22. A treaty has been concluded between France and Tunis, under the terms of which France assumes the responsibility of the Tunisian debt. A judicial tribunal is appointed, and a yearly allowance of £28,000 is accorded to the Bey. ALEXANDRIA, Oct. 22. In consequence of witnesses having been examined by a special commissioner at Cairo, in the absence of Arabi and his associates, or their legal advisers, an enquiry before the Commission will be re-opened on Saturday next. Three persons have been drowned by the inundation of their homes. SYDNEY, Oct. 24. The strike of men employed on the Neapean waterworks has concluded. BRISBANE, Oct. 24. The strike in the iron trade here has ended, and the men have resumed work.
