Any person or persons (where two or more are trading jointly or in co-partnership together) committing a breach or evasion in any manner howsoever of the above by-law No, 3 shall forfeit and pay for the first offence a fine of not more than £lO, and for each subsequent breach or evasion thereof a fine of not less than £1 nor more than £2O. Any person, or two or more persons if trading together jointly or in copartnership, desirous of obtaining a license for a Slaughterhouse as described in Section No. 6 of the said Act, may do so by applying therefor in writing. 183. All applications shall be addressed to the Town Clerk and delivered at the Borough offices for the time being at least one clear month before the meeting of the Council where the application is desired to be heard and considered. 184. Every application shall state fully and explicitly the locality and accommodation of the buildings desired to be licensed, and the arrangements and provisions made for ensuring cleanliness therein. 185. Every application for a fresh license shall be advertised in at least one newspaper published in the Borough of Patea once in each week for the month immediately preceding the day on which the application is to be heard. 186. An annual fee of £lO shall be paid for each Slaughterhouse within the Borough, and no certificate shall issue until actual payment of the fee unto the Town Clerk. 187. In addition to the fines hereinbefore or hereafter provided for in case of the breach or evasion of any of the said by-laws every license held or granted hereunder shall be liable to cancellation by resolution of the Borough Council, in addition to payment of such fine as the Court may order. 188. All licenses issued in pursuance of these by-laws shall remain in force until the 31st day of December next ensuing the granting thereof. 189. Licenses may be issued for shorter periods than a year on such terms as the Council shall think just, but in no case shall the fee therefor exceed £lO. 190. Any person who, prior to December 1879, held a license within the Borough, and is desirous of renewing the same, shall apply in writing during the month of December in each year for a renewal thereof, but it shall not be necessary publicly to notify such application. 191. Before granting any such renewal as aforesaid, the Council may require such alterations as they think necessary for ensuring cleanliness and good management, such alteration to be described to the applicant in writing before the issue of a license by the Council. 192. The skins, hides, and fleeces of animals slaughtered in any Slaughterhouse licensed under these by-laws shall be allowed to remain until disposed of in the ordinary way of business in the same condition as they were in when the animals were received in such Slaughterhouse. 193. An Inspector of Slaughter houses and Abattoirs shall be appointed by the Borough Council under the corporate seal of the Council. 194. It shall be the duty of the Inspector to enforce these by-laws and to carry the same into effect. 195. All proceedings rendered necessary for enforcing the said by-laws, or for collecting any fees due or enforcable under the provisions of the said Act, or these by-laws shall be recoverable at the suit or upon the information of the Inspector or and on behalf of the Borough Council of Patea. 196. Every slaughter-house shall be subject to inspection at all reasonable hours by such Inspector as the Borough Council shall appoint. 197. The Licensee or Licensees of any slaughterhouse shall on receiving from the Inspector a requisition in writing (or upon such requisition being left at his or their slaughter-house premises) within the time limited in that behalf in such requisition strictly and faithfully comply therewith, and perform and do the several Acts matters and things set forth in such requisition, and in default of such compliance within the time limited in such requisition the Licensee or Licensees or the person in charge of such slaughterhouse shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £lO for the first offence, and not less than £1 nor more than £2O for each subsequent offence, and on the continued neglect or refusal for 7 days to comply with the terms of the requisition, the Council may by resolution cancel any license held in such slaughter house and all fees paid in respect thereof shall be absolutely forfeited. 198. The Council may, by their Inspector and such other assistance as he may deem advisable or necessary and after default has been made in complying with a or any part or item of a requisition as in by-law No. 197 is provided for, proceed to the licensed Slaughter house and abate any nuisance existing thereon, or make any alteration in connection therewith and do all such acts and things as may in the opinion of the Inspector or in the term of the requisition be necessary for the cleanliness and good management of the Slaughter house. 199. The licensee or licensees shall be responsible to pay to the Council on demand all reasonable costs and expenses incurred by them in enforcing these bylaws from and in addition- to any fine or penalty inflicted for the breach hereof. 200- The owner or owners licensee or licensees of any Slaughter house shall provide and supply all animals large or small with sufficient water whilst they are enclosed in the Slaughter house premises. 201. The owner or owners of any Slaughter house shall provide; and supply a sufficient quantity of. good fresh water, for the use of the Slaughter house to the entire satisfaction of the Inspector. 202. No cruelty shall be committed or permitted on or to any animals in the Slaughter house premises. 203. The offal, filth, and refuse shall be cleared away and removed to such place as the Inspector shall indicate, at least once on each working day. 204. The owner or owners or lessee or lessees of any Slaughter house shall pay by way of inspection fee to any Inspector who may from time to time be appointed by the Council the sum of for each and every head of small cattle, and 2d for each and every head of large cattle slaughtered at any Slaughter house, provided that the demand be made for such fees within 31 days from the date of the slaughter of the cattle for which the fees are demanded, and not afterwards. 205. Any person found guilty of a breach of bylaws No. 200, 201, 202, 208, 204, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding £5 for each breach of, and in addition thereto on a second conviction to the cancellation of his or their license.

Bridges. 206. Any person or persons who shall ride, lead or drive, or cause or suffer to be ridden, led or driven, any horse or horses, or oxen or other animals, whether the same be or be not attached to any cart, waggon, carriage, vehicle, machine, or other conveyance of whatsoever a nature or kind it may be, across any bridge within the Borough, at a pace faster than a walk, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding £5 for each breach of this by-law. in connection with the late butchery and bakery business at Waverley are requested to be paid to Mr F, P.
