Messrs G. and F. Horner report : At our sale on Tuesday last, the attendance was not so numerous as usual, scarcely anything Using sold at the hammer. The following prices were obtained altenva.ids : —Mixed" yearlings, £2 12s fid ; ewes and lambs, 12s 3d ; horse and bull calf. Messrs Nolan’s sale of stock on Mr McGuire’s farm yesterday was very largely 7 attended, and all the stock sold freely at prices showing a slight advance on prices hitherto ruling latterly. About 180 head were sold, and before commencing, the auctioneer announced that the whole of the stock would be sold without any reserve. The bidding was very brisk and spirited, and the whole was soon quitted at the hammer. Six hand-fed heifers fetched £3 os; cows with, calves, fetched £4 16s ; 25 3-ycrr old steers fetched £4 ss; 31 cows, £3 12s, and 75 yearlings fetched £2 2s Gd. The latter were in low condition, and several of them were .much flushed through the place being crowded. The rest of the stock and impleineivs fetched fair prices. We learn from Auckland that at the sale of landed estate near the Graving Dock, at Calliope Point, North Shore, every allotment was sold, realising over £6,000. A Crown land sale also realised £3318. The bidding was brisk. A Reuter’s telegram under date Melbourne, October 11, gives die following quotations. Malting barley is firm at 5s Id to ss3d for supeiior quality. Shipping wheat has declined 2d to 3d during the week, and is quoted to-day at 6s 7d to 6s Od. The market is dull. New Zealand oats are in good demand. Stocks are light and prices have further advanced 2d to 3d during the week. Feeding qualities are worth 4s 4d to 4s 6 !, and milling, 4s 5d to 4s 7d. WAVERLEY SALE. At the Waverley yards yesterday, Mr Freeman R. Jackson held a large sale of cattle to the order of Messrs G. and E. Symes. Over 800 head were yarded, and were all sold. The prices realised were not so good as his last sale there. Some of the stock were rather low in condition, which, doubtless, accounts for the low prices ranging. Bullocks fetched from £5 2« fid to £5 5s ; 2-year-old steers, £4 5s ; cows, £3 10s ; cows in calf, £4 10s ; heifers, £2 17s fid to £3 ; yearlings, £2 12s fid. A few hacks were sold at current rates. A number of settlers took advantage of the sale day, and exhibited some entires, comprising Exchange, Huntsman, Clansman, Knockdon, President, and Dalesman. All the horses looked exceedingly well, but our space does not allow a detailed description of each. CANTERBURY PRODUCE MARKET. The week lias passed over quietly in the grain market. Business continues quiet, while" prices remain about the same. Wheat stands at 4s 4d to 4s 6d, with a trifling business passing. Chick samples are quoted at 3s to 3s 6d. Oats. —/ The enquiry, if anything, has improved. Although prices are unchanged, the feeling is slightly firmer. Best milling sorts command 3s 2d to 3s 3d, and feed quality ranges from 2s lid to,3° V" g^r->->Tv—There is very ' doing in -"THTs grain. PHcoo—unaltered for all grades. Flock.— Millers still quote £ll to £ll 10s according to brand. Potatoes. —Business has been limited to a few sales. Quotations remain at 40s to 455. Holders, however, ask more money. Grass Seed. —The enquiry 7 for both rye grass and cocksfoot has died away, and the few sales reported have been at a concession on previous rates. Buyers arconly operating ior actual orders. Dairy Produce. —Prices for old cheese remain at 7MI to -Bd. Hams and bacon, 74d to Bd. Butter of best quality is unobtainable. LONDON MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Conrpany report, under date London, October 10th :—The wool market is unchanged. ‘ The w heat market is flat ; Victorian is worth 475, and New Zealand 43s per 4961 bs. The tallow market is easier. Best mutton is quoted at 45s fid, and beet beef 44s 6d. The loathe l- market Is firm. Best sides, The Now Zealand flax market is quiet. Fine quality is worth £2B per ton.
