The embarkation of British tro'ops for England and the Indian contingent for Bombay is being rapidly proceeded with, and transports are leaving daily for their destination. An inquiry has been opened here into the circumstances attending the circumstances attending the outbreak and massacre which occurred in this city in June last. LONDON, Oct. 10. It is understood that the British Government has not yet formulated any proposal for the final settlement of the Egyptian Question ; but that the Powers are being sounded as to their views pending a final settlement of affairs in Egypt. • ■ AUSTRALIAN. The breach of promise case, Swiney v. Leybourne, was concluded at 5.30 this evening, the jury finding for the plaintiff, and awarding £25 damages. The amount claimed was £2OO. DUNEDIN, Oct, 11. The Burns’ Statue Committee have given an order to Sir J. Steele for a statue. The pedestal is to be of grey granite, and the basement of Port Chalmers bluestone. Mr James Mills, the well-known gunsmith, and leading member of the Masonic fraternity, died yesterday.
