TO THE “MAIL.” ♦ ' (per eeuter’s agency.) : •; EXPLOSION OF WAR STORES AT CAIRO. LOSS, HALF A MILLION STERLING. DEATHS AND INJURIES. (Received Sept. 30th, 12.55 a.m.) Alexandria,! 28th.—A goods train loaded, with ammunition exploded while standing at the railway station, Cairo. The British officers were holding a race meeting in the: vicinity at the time, and a large number of Arabs and Europeans who were near the train, were blown away,by the force of the explosion, thirty persons being killed. The station and neighboring buildings are in flames. Explosions of similar nature continue to occur. The cause is said to, be the Intense heat. It is estimated that by the explosion of ammunition at Cairo British , stores and material to the value of £500,000 destroyed. (Received Sept.: 30th, 2.45 p.m.) Alexandria, later.—The explosion at Cairo resulted in the destruction of 10 days’ rations and 100 trucks of war munitions. Five persons were killed and 20 severely injured. The accident is attributed to the accidental bursting of a shell. - AFTER THE WAR. (Received 2nd., 12.45 aim.) Alexandria, Sept. 30th,—A grand review of the British army took place today at Cairo, and was a most imposing spectacle. The Indian contingent are now. under orders to return and will leave leave for India at once. The Guards do not leave Egypt, ; until. October 30th. Frozen Meat Prizes. . London, 30th.—A further quantity of the Mntaura’s mutton was sold today at an average: of 5d per pound. The Mathura’s sheep are pronounced by competent judges to be over fat., . A pyrtion of the cargo of mutton ex bs Garonne, from Melbourne, sold to-day at m average s^d. The Irish Trouble. London, 30th.—Mr E. D. Small Pox or Not? Melbourne, 30th. — : The snpposed small-pox patient at Hamilton died today. Bank Dividend* London, 30th.—The Bank of Australia has declared a dividend of 5 per cent for the past half year. Driving Out the Jews* Vienna, 30th.—Serious anti-Jewifh riots have occurred at Pressburg, a town in Hungary, thirty-five miles east of this city, and containing 46,000 inhabitants, of whom 7000 are Jews. The riots lasted a considerable time, the mob defying the authorities. Martial law was proclaimed, and is still enforced in the district.
