SMALL POX AT THE CAPE.

Papers received by the Cuzco, from Cape Town, state that during the nlohth of August small pox spread rapidly, and cases were reported from many of the surrounding districts. In Cape Town itself, on Saturday, 19th August, no fewer than 15 deaths were reported, and on the following day three deaths occurred in-one street, while during the two days 27 fresh cases were reported. It was estimated by the Cape Argus that there were between 200 and 300 cases in Cape Town. The exact number was not known, because a large proportion of the cases had occurred amongst the Malays, who were averse to the measures of isolation which had been adopted, and practised the greatest concealment. Amongst this class the disease had proved most fatal, the proportion of deaths to the number of cases being one to three.
