OTAGO “BLOW.”
An exchange says in view o£ the Sydney football team, the 0(ago Times indulges in the following “ blow —“ Of course no one —no Dunedinite, at any rate —believes that the Sydney team expects to find foemen worthy of their steel in Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch. They have, of course, wisely decided to land in the North; anil lake those towns in succession, just to keep their hands—or feet—in until they reach llio champions of this more Southern clime. And surely our young men are not going to let victory remain with a set of men who never enjoy in tropical Sydney the invigorating air of the Otago football season. In such a climate as theirs how can they have learnt to play with the dash and determination that are born of an Otago winter’s day?” The rest of the article is characterised by similar modesty, which is the more remarkable when one remembers the crushing defeat inflicted, not so long ago by the Wellington representatives.
