FOOTBALL—Sydney v. Wanganui. Wellington.—ln the match this afternoon, there have been two spells of 40 minutes. In the first spell, Wanganui secured a try, but it was disallowed on account of the second man touching it. RESULT. Later. —Sydney beat Wanganui by a goal and two tries : 9 to 1 try 2. Stolen Property. Auckland.—£3o worth of jewellery, etc, stolen by J. Marsh, has been recovered at the Thames, from a pawnshop. Photographer Poisoned. Dunedin. Hermann Bruice, photographer, died from an overdose of chlorodyne. Whipping the Enemy. Wellington. —Ships in harbor and many places of business are flying bunting today, in honor of the British victory in Egypt. BURNING MR BRYCE’S EFFIGY. Thames.—A hundred men of the late rifle contingent, disgusted at not getting two months’ pay for their short outing to Parihaka, burnt Mr Bryce in effigy on Saturday night, in the presence of 2,000 people. The figure was fixed on a white horse, a la Pariholca ; the band played the Dead March through the town; and then the figure was set on fire. The police did not interfere. Water Pipes. New Plymouth.—The ship Port Glasgow arrived on Saturday with pipes for the New Plymouth water works. Mr Bryce and the King. Wellington. —Messrs Dick and Bryce will leave shortly for the north. The former goes on an official visit through the North Island, and Mr Bryce meets Tawhiao, and will endeavor to make satisfactory arrangements for opening the country. Death of a ChiefNew Plymouth.—The chief Te Teira Manuka died at Waitara on Saturday, aged 70 years. He was the chief whe sold to the Government the land which was the cause of the war in 1860.
