CANTERBURY WOOL PRICES.

In a review of the Christchurch wool sales for the past season, the Loan and Mercantile Agency says : The fine shafty combing merino and light half-quarter-bred descriptions so much in request for Continental trade, and which are produced in such perfection by Canterbury sheep fanners, will always command full value, whether they be offered in this or the Home market. Wools of this type were in strong demand, and realised higher rates in comparison with other classes during the season. The condition of the clip throughout was excellent. The only exceptions to be noted in this connection were the dull sappy clips off sheep wintered on turnips. A tender fleece was rarely to be met with, and the get-up was generally satisfactory, though we must observe that greater attention to classing and skirting would add materially to the value of many well-grown clips. We would remind growers of cross-breds that a careful elimination of all daggs from fleeces and pieces amply repays for the extra trouble and loss in weight. Prices throughout the season have shown no great fluctuation, though it should be observed that cross-breds gradually receded in value, in sympathy with the Horne market. We append a statement showing the minimum, maximum and average prices realised by us for the lots quitted at our sales, eliminating the faulty and mixed parcels : GREASY. Merino, 1526 bales, 7|cl to IHd ; average 0 93d. Cross-bred, 46G bales, 7d to Ojjd ; average ' 8 43d. Half-bred, 85 bales, 8d to lUd ; average 8-90 d.
