Nominated Immigrants. Wellington, 9th,—The nominations by the outgoing mail are for 1145 souls, and the amount paid by their friends is £3847 lOs. The following are the numbers from each district :—Auckland 192, Taranaki 8> Hawke’s Bay 73, Wellington HO, Nelson 21, Marlborough, 2, Canterbury 323, Otago 313, Southland 87, Westland 8. Of the above 441 are single women, 223 single men, and the remainder famalies. DrownedChristchurch.—W. Wilson, a farm laborer, was found drowned in the River Styx yesterday. Stabbing a Brother. Christchurch,—H. Leach, 10 years, has been arrested on a charge of stabbing his brother Robert, 14 years, in the leg with a penknife. Leaky Schooner. Wellington. The captain of the steamer Jane Douglas, which arrived from Foxton last night, states that the ketch Recamia, which was loaded in Foxton river and ready to sail for Lyttellton, sprung a leak on Saturday, and bad to be beached. The Recamia is owned in Lyttelton. Her cargo of timber is insuredNew Comet. Wellington.—A large and brilliant comet, between north-east and east, was visible here at 4.15 on Sunday morning. The comet has a large head, pointed towards the earth, and is lost sight of about 6 o’clock. Woollen FactoryAshburton, 9th.—The directors of the Ashburton woollen factory have sent Home by the out-going mail an order of LSOOO for additional plant for the factory. Ratnsden, late of the Kaipoi factory, has been appointed manager. Operations at the factory start in about ten months time. Football—Sydney Team v. Auckland. At the football match on Saturday, 4,000 persons were present. The betting was largely in favor of the Sydney team before the start. Four bouts. Soon after play began it was seen that the Sydney men were overmatched by the Auckland team. ,T. Henderson (captain) forced the game all through. The Aucklanders, in the second turn, won a goal and try; seven points to nothing. The first try was obtained by Briggs, which Ryan converted into a goal. Sims also got a try. The shot at goal was not successful. At the second turn, Raper, captain of the Sydney team, fell out, with a bad cut under his right eye, in colliding. He went to the hospital to get it stitched, and wanted to return to the field, bnt his friends dissuaded him.' Jennings, of the same team, got his shoulder put out, bnt had it pulled in again. Walker (Jumbo) got hurt slightly. Of the Auckland team, Whiteside, Ryan, Warbrick, and Henderson distinguished themselves ; of the Sydney team, Raper, Walker, Shallon, end Bayliss. Mr W. Robinson was umpire for Auckland, Mr McClatchie for Sydney ; Mr Cotter referee. There was a good deal of disputing during the match, bnt it ended with the best of feeling, Sydney calling for cheers for Auckland, which were responded to by cheers for the visitors. Stor Hotel the Mayor presided. It passed off’ successfully. Racing PurchaseDunedin.—W. H. Taggit has purchased Le Loup for 500 guineas. Infant Found Dead. Invercargill.—The body of an infant found at South Invercargill, yesterday, had been placed in a box, which was buried two feet down. The discovery was due to a dog. Reported Ship wreckChristchurch.— Captain Anderson of the barque Wild Wave reports that last Monday when passing the coast between Gatlin’s river and Nngget Point be noticed inshore what appeared to be a vessel with fore-mast and mizen-mast only standing. The vessel had all the appearance of being ashore somewhere near a false inlet. Mysterious Death, Hokitika. —A woman named Ellen Galloway, wife of the master of the Harbor Board dredge, was missed from her house on rhe south spit on Friday, about eleven p.m. She appears to have got out of bed and walked into the creek, for her footprints were traced to , the water. The body was recovered on Saturday.
