Votes for Public Works

[by telegraph.] The House disenssed and passed, late on Friday night, the following estimates for public works:—Public Works Department £1284, railways £903,696, surveys of new lines £12,500. Roads and bridges Auckland £77,473, Hawkes Bay £8,552, Wellington £28,316, Taranaki £15,420, Nelson £59,616, Marlborough £33,100, Westland £22,302, Canterbury £25,296, Otago £44,309, Southland £15,593, sundry roads £10,383, roads through lands recently purchased £2391, land purchase North Island £82,455, roads on goldfields £16,700, waterworks on goldfields £10,465, telegraph extension £19,520, public buildings £222,230, lighthouses £25,200, harbors £48,913, contingent defence £184,000, charges and expenses of raising loan £IO,OOO. This completed the Public Works Estimates, and the House rose at 5 a.tn.

LOCAL WORKS.

The above Estimates ns voted include the following stuns :—Railways, Foxton to Patea—Salaries, £1,431 ; construction and land, £61,000. Patea to Waitara Salaries, £481; construction and land, £40,000. To relieve the Wanganui Bridge from tolls, £17,000; bridge over Wangaehu, £IOOO ; bridge approach Orepuhi, £l5O : road in Manchester Block, H6 ; road Foxton to Otaki inland, LSOO ; Manawatu Gorge road, LBOO ; grant in aid for bridge over Manawatu river L 200 0; roads in Pitzherbert block, L 1000; Seventy-mile bush road, L 4850 ; sundry roads, LIOOO.
