LONDON HOP TRADE.
Messrs Trier Mayer & Co., hop merchants, of London, report that the market daring the month ending July 13th had been in a very excited state : the advance mentioned was not only maintained, hut had steadily progressed and assumed greater proportions, in consequence of the
serioiis condition of the English hop plantations and some of the Continental districts. Hops of any r kind and quality of 1881 growth had been taken off freely by consumers, and as there were scarcely any slocks in the hands of the trade or speculators, prices were expected to rule much higher yet. Export outers were very difficult to fill, and that only at extreme rates. HAWERA STOCK REPORT. Messrs R. H. Nolan and Co. report as follows : Our stock sales during the month have been well attended, although the extremely bad weather has not improved the prices. Cattle. —At (he Manaia yards on the 24th ultimo, some good sorts came forward, and were all disposed of. At the High street yards Thursdays entries were fair and class of stock yarded good. The bull Te Whiti was passed in at £lB, the balance being sold at satisfactory rates. We quote—wean era 35s to 40s, yearlings £2 10s to £3, 2-year-old steers £3 17s 6d to £4 ss, store cows £3 10s to £4 ISj bullocks £6, milch cows £3 14s to £5 17s 6d. Horses.— Several were entered, and bidding for draught stock was spirited. We sold good farm mares at from £2O to £27 10s, hacks £4 10s to £7 ss.
