UNEMPLOYED IN N.S. WALES.

In New South Wales, during the six months ended 30lh June, the Commissioner for granting railway passes to the unemployed (Mr G. F. Wise) received 964 applications from persons who represented that they were desirous of securing employment in the country. AU applicants were subjected to searching examination, the result being that 780 passes were granted. Of the persons who received these passes no fewer than 268 represented (hat they had come from Victoria, 122 from New Zealand, 94 from Great Britain, 46 from Queensland, 44 from South Australia, 5 from Tasmania, 28 from Italy, and 10 from America. The destination of more than half of the unemployed to whom passes were granted w ! as Dubbo, no fewer than 415 proceeding to that town. During the first six months of last year 1241 persons applied for passes, and 1043 of the applications were complied with.
