Concert and Dance

AT KAKARAMEA. [by a visitor.] The concert last night proved a great success. The attendance was not as large as usual, owing to counter attractions in Patea ; but those present had a musical treat. The programme consisted of pianoforte selections, songs, recitations, reading, &c., and wound up with a hornpipe danced by a Mr Galbraith with great spirit and success. It had to be repeated. The concert was opened by a pianosolo, “ Silver waves,” which was played by a young lady who has on all occasions assisted at the Kakaramea concerts most willingly. The piece was played with great taste and expression—as were the several accompaniments to the songs during the evening. The songs, recitations, and reading went splendidly ; but the gem of the evening was “ Oarrissima,” sung by a young lady. The song “ The Fairies ” was given in response to an encore. This lady would be an acquisition to the Patea Harmonic Society. At the close of the concert the floor was cleared for dancing, which was kept up until an early hour.
