BALLOT for the LOAN.

Ratepayer,s are to ballot on Wednesday for or against. tbe Patea borough loan of £IO,OOO. A majority of the burgesses is needed to carry the loan ; and it should be made a point of duty to vote at the poll on Wednesday before six o’clock, to make sure that the required number of votes shall be recorded. It is not enough to be content with the absence of opposition ; for any ratepayer who stays away from the poll may be voting against the scheme without intending it, because the effect of one vote not being recorded may defeat the scheme, and there is no knowing whose vote that may be. The only safe way is to make sure. It is also desirable to show bow large a proportion of the burgesses feel an active and intelligent interest in the fate of this important scheme for pushing the place ahead at a critical time, by securing a loan expenditure of £IO,OOO.
