Crowded meetings are being held in Dunedin by Mormon missionaries. Pensions, gratuities, &c., paid under the Civil Service Act amount to £30,352. Six thousand men are employed by Mr Krupp the great gun maker in {Prussia. The Salvage Company's store at Milton, was recently entered at night and £36 stolen. Twenty-one children were admitted to the Industrial School at Caversham during the month of June. Moses Akerman Price, late secretary to a Druid society in Dunedin, has been arrested for embezzling. A southern contemporary says that it would be utter madness to have a direct steam service between England and New Zealand, and it hopes the Government will not sanction this proposal.
