Freeman R. Jackson’s Fortnightly Stock Report. Wanganui, August 9. The sales during the fortnight were fairly well attended, considering the boisterous weather which we have had. Prices were maintained for cattle, but not for sheep, the latter not selling so well as last month. Possibly'as spring approaches they will recover their value. The yards have been well filled, and nearly all the lots offering found purchasers at the prices quoted below.
Cattle.—At Waverley, 85 head wer# yarded—Cows and calves," £4 ; mixed stores, £3 ; weaners, £2 to £2 os. At Kakaramea, 210 head came forward— Cows, .£3 17s to £4 2s; bullocks, £5; steers, £2 4s fid to £3 Is ; weaners, £2. At the yards to-day 260 were in the pens --Fat bullocks, £7 to £8 5s ; cows, £5 to £5 to £5 15s; cows, £3 18s ; heifers, £3 9s ; steers, £3 9s.
Sheep.—At Waverley, 1473 were sold —Best fat wethers, 15s to 16s ; ewes, 10s to 12s 2d ; Napier ewes, 9s. At Kakaramea, 1300 were penned and 900 were sold—Ewes, 9s fid to 14s Id. At the St Hill-street yards—Best wethers, 16s ; ewes and wethers, 14s ; ewes, 11s 5 merinos, 4s fid. 637 head made up the sale.
Horses. —A large number of inferior animals were offered. Some fair drafts found purchasers at from £l7 16s to £2O ss.
Pigs.—Only small stores *were penned, which fetched from 3s to 5s 9d.
Exports.—7s cattle, 605 sheep, 29 pigs, and 7 horses.
