A Recent Government Gazette gives the following results of the late collection of agricultural statistics : Of oats, throughout the colony, there were grown in 1881, 215,030 acres, with an average yield of 32 bushels; in- 1882, 243,387 acres, the average being 284 bushels. Of wheat, in 1881, there were 324,949 acres, with a yield of about 25 bushels ; in 1882, 365,715, yielding at the rate of 23 bushels to the acre. In barley there were, in 1881, 46,878 acres, yielding 2G bushels ; while in 1882 there were 29, 808 acres giving an average of 22 bushels. There were, in 1881, 22,553 acres in potatoes, which averaged tons to the acre ; in 1882, there were 22,540 acres, which gave returns of about 5} tons. This shows that while the area laid down in wheat and oats had increased last year, the returns were less to the acre than in 1881.
