How Winiata was Hung.
Wellington, 7th.—The Sheriff of Auckland has telegraphed to the Minister of Justice denying that-there was any bungling in connection with Winiata’s execution. He states that unconsciousness immediately followed the drop, which was eight feet, and the apparent stilled breathings of Winiata were merely the escape of air from the chest. The Sheriff denies that it was ten minutes before death ensued, or that Winiata’s sufferings were prolonged, and that the hangman tugged at the hanging man’s legs. Profitable Timber Company. Auckland, 7th.—-At the annual meeting of the Auckland Timber Company a 15 per cent, dividend was declared, and £17,095 carried forward;
