HUGE WATERSPOUT.

A Waterspout of an unusually large size was drawn up in Cook Straits recently and was carried with, a westerly eddy into Ly el Is Bay, where it burst on the eastern side of the beach, making a noise never to be forgotten by those who heard it. The mass of water as it rose perpendicularly was witnessed by a large number of people, particularly those residing in the vicinity of Kilbimie ; the crew of the steamer Napier, when coming up the harbor, also saw it across the sand-hills beyond Evans Bay, and describe it as the largest they ever saw. Its height when close in shore is estimated to have been about 300 feet, and in diameter about 15 feet. At its base the water for a considerable distance round it was covered with foam, which rose and fell with a loud hissing noise. For about a hundred feet up the pillar of water presented a beautiful transparent greenish hue, and from that point to the. summit a dirty slatish color. The top of the spout overlapped the main trunk, and resembled in shape an immense convolvulus. - This was partly enveloped in a cloud of light mist which, everv now .and then reflected all the prismatic colors.
