WAIMATE ROAD DISTRICT.

In order to hasten payment of overdue deferred payment money, the following telegram was sent to Sir George Grey by the Waimate Road Board :—“ Waimate Plains Road District has,experienced great difficulty in obtaining payment, one-third of monies derived from land sold on deferred payments, owing cumbersome centralising Land Board, consisting Minister and Crown Lands Commissioner. They therefore trust you will endeavor have West Coast District Land Board also made elective, and included in new Bill. £750 due January last, not yet paid'; authority granted by Commissioner, but refused by Minister.” Sir George Grey replied as follows : “ Will endeavor to carry out your wishes Land Board.”
