CONFERENCE OF AMBASSADORS
Turkish Troops Despatched.
Constantinople, Ist.—The conference of the European Ambassadors resumed its sitting to-day. M. Onou has received fresh instructions from the Russian Go yernraent to rejoin the conference, and to participate in its proceedings. The Porte' has definitely decided to despatch a body of troops to Egypt provided the British troops were withdrawn. Five-thousand troops are under orders to embark. Dervisch Pasha will accompany the expedition. English and Turkish Soldiers. Constantinople, 2nd.—The Porte in its reply to the communication of the Powers, states that it can only proclaim Arabi a rebel after the Turkish troops have landed in Egypt. The English Ambassador has notified to the Porte that the English Government requires that the Turkish troops sent to Egypt should be subject to the orders of Sir Garnet Wolesley. Alexandria, 2nd.—The Naval Brigade has been landed from the British fleet, and has occupied Hex, near this city, in force. This movement has been taken in consequence of the attitude of the Bedouin Arabs, who are massing in the neighborhood of Lake Mareotis and threatening the city, and whose advance it has been found necessary to check.

London, Ist.—lt is stated that 2000 Bedouins are encamped in the vicinity of Alexandria. .
: There is still plenty of water in the canal which supplies the- city. The number of persons massacred in the interior is, estimated at 50.
Condition of South AustraliaPROPOSED MILLION LOAN.
Adelaide, 2nd .—The i Hon. Lavinglon Glyde, Colonial Treasurer, delivered , the Financial Statement in the Legislative Assembly last night. It showed that the revenue for the past financial year was £2,102,000, or £173,000 above the estimate. The increases were principally in Customs and land revenue. The expenditure for tae year was £2,132,000 including the bonded debt of £524,000. The expenditure was £154,000 over the estimate. The treasurer estimates the revenue for the current year at £2,162,000 and the expenditure at, £2,247,000, and expects a deficit in 1883 of £28,000. He proposes to raise a loan of one million in October next, and is satisfied that the
»ame can be obtained at par. He expressed bis disappointment at the lowness in the increase of population. The imports for the year exceeded the exports. The debt of the colony amounts to £12,000,000, equal to £43 per head of the population. In order to cover the deficit i lie treasurer proposes to tax: land in outside districts belonging to councils and corporations, and to levy a penny stamp duty on cheques. Railway Extension in N-S-W. Sydney, 2nd.—The northern railway extension from Tamworth to Uralla, 300 miles from Sydney, was opened to-day by the Hon. Robert Wisdom, AttorneyGeneral, with the customary ceremony.
