LORDS AND RENT BILL.
London, August I.—-In the House of Lords to-day, the Arrears of Rent in Ireland Bill came uw for consideration in committee. Two vital amendments to the measure were proposed by the Marquis of Salisbury, and after debate were agreed to by the House. Occupation of CanaL Alexandria, Aug. I.—The Khedive has sent a communication to Admiral Seymour, authorising the occupation of the Suez Canal by English forces. All the French war vessels which had been stationed here and at other Egyptian ports are now leaving. Cricket Tour. London, 31st.—The Australian team commenced a match tb-day against the Liverpool Club. First innings of visitors closed for 240, Giffen being caught for 81. Later from Egypt. SENDING BRITISH GUARDS. Alexandria, July 31st. Admiral Seymour has adandoned the proposed bombardment of Aboukir by British ironclads. Intelligence from Ismalia, in the Suez canal, that a large force of British marines have been landed there. London, 31st.— A regiment .of Grenadier Guards embarked to-day for Egypt, and the Coldstream Guards will do so to - morrow. The Household Cavalry have received orders to embark on Wednesday.
