The Rev. Mr Keating will preach at Waverley bn Sunday morning. Mr Barker will sell to-morrow various articles lately belonging to Mr M’Kittrick, of the Central Hotel. Mr Muir, Waverley, is extending his clearing sale two weeks longer, on account of bad roads ; and calls particular attention to bargains in clothing, dress materials, and surplus drapery. The annual meeting of the Patea Horticultural Society was held at the office of the Secretary, Egmontstreet, on Wednesday evening, Mr Barker occupying the chair. The Secretary read a statement of receipts and expenditure to date, showing that £76 15s had been received and £66 3s lOd expended, thus showing a balance to the credit- of the society of £lO 12s. Mr Christie was elected President for the ensuing year, Mr A. W. Williams Secretary and Treasurer, and thefollowing gentlemen were elected members of the Committee : H.E.P. Adams, Barker, J. Williamson, J. Riseley, John Paterson, Orchard, and Gilbert Pearce.
Judgment was given to-day in the notable case North v. Williams, The decision was emphatically against the theory of fraud or conspiracy, and was in favor of .Mr Williams’s side on all points.
The s.s. Wakatu was detained yesterday in Westport by bad weather. The Oil and Fibre Company will meet to-morrow afternoon to float the company.
Normanby. The annnal general meeting of shareholders in the Normanby Town Hall Coy. took place last evening. A number of shareholders turned,up, but not sufficient to form a quorum. The yearly balance-sheet, prepared by the Secretary, Mr Gray, was laid on the table, and appeared to meet with the approval of those present; A long and 'informal discussion took place upon the present and future prospects of the company, and although nothing definite was decided upon, it seemed general opinion that the-neigh-borhood should be canvassed to get off the remaining shares, the proceeds to be applied towards reducing the mortgage on the Hall.
