Sheep-Worrying continues in this district.- Mr A. Young has had several sheep worried on land near Patea hill, Whenuakura, and Mr Barker has had some damage done to sheep near the Cricket Ground. Last week Mr H. I. Davis shot a dog in the act of chasing his sheep, of which he lost several, all in lamb. Too many halfbred sporting curs are kept about the town ; young things that have had no training, and are dangerous to be at large where sheep are about. It would be doing a public service to shoot every dog that shows a tendency to snap at sheep. Mr Barker has laid poison in his paddock. The electric light is injuring the property of gas companies in this colony. The Auckland Gas Company’s shares fell 25 per cent in a week, Wellington shares fell .£l3 to £l2, and Napier £l3 10s to £ll 10s. Te Whiti is a sort of political property. Mr. Montgomery has adopted the prophet, and says of him: “Te Whiti is a man of great intellect, immense brain power, of a highly poetic temperament, a born orator, as pure and honest as any man in the colony, and without a flaw in his moral character—a man who has used all bis gifts and powers to do what he could and benefit his race. ”
