POLITICAL GOSSIP.

A Parliamentary Burlesque.

The division on Wednesday night continues to be the subject of keen discussion and speculation in political circles. I hear that both Mr Buchanan and Mr Pilliett, who voted with the Ministry then, have now pledged themselves to vote on a no-confidence motion with the Opposition. The Post says : “ Had the Government been beaten on Wednesday night’s question of adjournment, we really do not know which side would have looked the more ridiculous—the victors or the vanquished. It would be too absurd to have a Ministry going out of office on a question of adjourning a debate on a private member’s bill, —yet this would have been the position bad Ministers been beaten, after explicitly staking their existence on the point. It is true they worn but they cannot afford to have, many such victories.”—Cor. Wang. Herald.
