TO THE “MAIL.” (per reuter’s agency.) THE WAiIN EGYPT. Alexandria, 18th.—A general exodus of Europeans from Cairo still continues, and very few now remain in the city. Several disturbances have occurred at Tantah, a large town at the junction of the railway from Cairo to Alexandria and Dannetta branch. The natives attacked the European quarter in force, and several of the latter have been killed. [AGE specials.] London, 18th.—There is delay in the action of the forces against Arabi Pasha, as the Khedive hesitates issuing an edict of outlawing. An outbreak in Cairo is imminent. July 19tb (10.8 a.m.)— The Engish occupation of the Suez Canal is to be for three months. Alexandria is now quieting. Arabi Pasha commands the water supply for the city, and threatens to cut it off. The Governor of Cairo has suppressed the attempts which were made at looting.
10,000 Arabs are assembled in the vicinity of the Canal. The Arabs at Oram are suddenly arming and assuming a threatening demeanour. Paris, 19th.—In the Chamber of Deputies to-day the Minister of Foreign Affairs announced that England and France had agreed to undertake the joint military protection of the Suez Canal, and further to co-operate in the joint occupation of Egypt should the necessity arise. Wellington, July 20. Telegraphic communication between Alexandria and Cairo is interrupted. Mel bourne.--The war risk demanded by the English Insurance Companies is one and a half per cent., and not five per cent., as previously stated.
