A MAORI COURT.

The first bill : proposed by a Native member has just passed the second reading. On Thursday, Tomoana moved the second reading of the Native Committee’s Empowering Bill. The Maoris wanted authority to settle their own personal differences and their; quarrels about land. • Mr Bryce did not think these separate courts for one race desirable. The subject required;great care and consideration. Messrs Turnbull and Sheehan expressed approval of the Bill. After a : lengthy discussion, the second reading was carried on division by 38 to 24. ■■
