A start towards plate-laying on the Patea-Manutahi section of the railway is now being made. Engineers have commenced pegging out for that purpose.

There was a moderate attendance at Mr F. R. Jackson’s usual stock sale. 119 head of cattle were yarded, and of these 116 sold. Yearlings wont at £2 7s. Cows and calves, £4, , Weaners, £2 f>s. Cows, £3 2s 6d to £3 10s 6d. Forward cows, £4 7s 6d to £4 7s. 1006 sbcep were penned and 600 were disposed of at fair prices, namely : ewes in lamb, 8s 9d to 9s. Lambs, Bs, There is now an opening for a shoemaker, Mr Cotton having sought fresh fields and pastures new.

The Library Committee’s entertainment ia postponed about three weeks.
