HAWERA.

(prom our correspondent.) A meeting of the Hawera Light Horse was held on Saturday evening, when it was resolved to disband the troop. The arms, &c., will be called in at once. The Football Club are getting into training. On Saturday last a match was played between town and country, resulting in a victory for the country, by 14 points. The town side will have to take a little more exercise before they can play football for an hour and a half. The Bishop of Wellington has replied, with reference to the appointment of Mr Taylor to this parish, that he

does not feel justified in appointing him until Mr Taylor is ordained. If the Bishop of Auckland could see his way to appoint Mr Taylor to Inglewood, I should think there would be no great objection to his coming here, but I suppose his lordship knows best. He is not giving the parishioners the encourouragement they deserve. In fact it looks very much like his doing all he can to oppose them. The Protestant Hall is nearly completed, and is to be opened in a few days with a dance. A good number of invitations have been issued, and I have no doubt the affair will be a success. The tenders for the alterations to the Hawera Town Hall were' opened on Thursday last, and Mr Croker is the accepted tenderer-at something under £2OO. The hall is to be lengthened, and several rooms put bn to the sides. The Masons have decided to build a hall for holding lodge meetings, &c,, and I believe about £2OO has already been promised toward (hot object. Mr Wallis’s new hotel was Opened on Saturday last, a great number calling to drink health and prosperity to the proprietor, ■'/ Mr E. Morrish’s Royal Hotel was also opened on Saturday. A dinner was given by the host in the evening to anyone who liked to come, and of course was numerously attended. The net amount taken at the entertainment was £25 3s, and after expenses are paid there will be a substantial addition to the funds of the Drill Shed. The Band appear to have settled their little difficulties, for they are hard at practice again.
