The British Army Reserve.
London, 3rd.—The Government have decided that the mobilisation of the Army Reserve shall at once be proceeded with, in view of the possibility of that force being required to fill the place of regular troops which may be despatched, to Egypt. A Nihilistic Pests in England. London, 3rd.—lt has transpired that since the recent visit of the Prince of Wales to Bradford, dynamite was found to be concealed in some of the bridges over which the Royal train passed. It is believed that the discovery reveals the existence of a plot to take the Prince’s life. Too Much Alarm. : London, 4th.—lt has been ascertained that the material which was found in the bridge near. Bradford at the time of the Prince of Wales’s recent visit to that town was merely fireworks and not dynamite;afl at first supposed. Mildew in Frozen Meat, London, 4th.—Half the cargo of frozen meat ex Cuzco has been sold. The carcases are not in first-class order, an examination having proved 10 per cent of them are affected by mildew. Australian Cricket in EnglandLondon, 3rd.—The Australians commenced their match against the eleven of Northamptonshire at Northampton to-day. The Horae team went in first, and were all disposed of for a total of 122. The Aus tralians then commenced their first innings, and at the close of the day’s play had scored 143 runs for a loss of only four wickets. McDonnell bowled for 38; Griffin, not out, 41.
N- S- W. Railway ExtensionSydney, 4th.—The railway extension from Nanandara to Hay was opened to-day by his Excellency, Lord toftus. Sir John Robertson, Sir Alfred Stephen, the Hon. John Lackey, the Hon. Robert Wisdom, and a large number of distinguished persons were present at the ceremony, which passed off with great rejoicings. ' Putting Down ObstructionLondon, 4th.—ln the House of Commons yesterday the disorderly and obstructive conduct of Mr O’Donnell, M.P. for Dungarvan, when the House was in Committee on Saturday last, was broughtup for discussion. Mr O’Donnel, who with other Irish members was suspended on that occasion for obstruction, also made use of insulting language in alluding to the chair. The motion was therefore put and carried in the House yesterday, That he should be suspended for a fortnight. In consequence of continued obstruction to the Irish Repression Bill, the system of voting urgency has been revived and adopted, with a view to expedite the passage of the measure through the House. Conference on Egypt. ; Constantinople, 4th.-—The Conference of European ambassadors has resumed its sittings here. The question of permitting the Sultan to intervene in the settlement of affairs in Egypt is now being discussed by the Envoys. VictoriaMelbourne, this day.—The Marchioness of Normanby is recovering from her indisposition, but is still confined to her room.
Captured DebtorAdelaide, this day.—Harjes, the Auckland levanter, was examined here yesterday in bankruptcy. His liabilities were shown to be £1,486, but the estate shows a surplus of £876.
