ELECTRIC LIGHT IN AUCKLAND.
The Herald says :—The other day we stated that Auckland was nearer the electric light business than most people imagined, as the ship Vanguard, daily expected, had on board a Brush-dynamo electric machine of 4000 candle power, consigned to Messrs Oppenheimer and Co. That firm appears to have been anticipated by that of Messrs E. Porter and Co., as the first electric light apparatus which has been imported into Auckland has been landed from the Cumbria consigned to them. It comprises one Brush - dynamo electric machine of 2000-candle power, six hanging lamps, and twenty-four Lane Fox incandescent lamps of 20-cnndle power each, a focussing lamp, dial attachment, and the necessary wire ; also 1750 carbons. Messrs Oppenheimer and Co. have on the way a large number of Swan’s incandescent lamps, for the use of the electric light in private dwellings, so that private citizens as well as -public bodies may, if they desire to do so, enjoy the latest modern luxury.
