THE MURDERER OP PACKER. Auckland, 29th.—-This morning seven hundred people assembled to see Winiata conducted from the police cells to the Courthouse. The prisoner marched across the road between Detective Brennan and ponstable McGilp, and seemed utterly oblivious of the interest his presence occasioned. . Since his arrival here he has eaten hie food heartily, and chatted freely with those with whom he comes in contact, Barlow, WiniataV was in town to-day, and was the object of general attraction. He is over six feet high, nearly nineteen stone' weight, and of Herculean strength. He denies the drugging or chloroforming. Winiata had a five-barrelled revolver across his breast while sleeping, which Barlow secured. Mrs Barlow rendered great service in the capture. Barlow has had to abandon his home, horses, cattle, and two hundred pigs, bis. property in the King country, so that he loses a respectable amount in that way.
